Sprinkle salt on a cutting board and rub the okra in salt. Remove the stems and cut into round slices. Beat the egg.
Cut the onion, tomato, and bacon into 1 cm. Grate the ginger. You'll need about 1/2 teaspoon.
Add the soup ingredients to a pot and bring to a boil. Add the bacon, onion, and okra. There will be some scum, so skim off carefully.
Add tomatoes and bring to a boil. Add a small amount of Tabasco sauce.
While the soup is simmering, add the beaten egg a little at a time, using chopsticks to mix. Heat the soup once more, and it's done.
I like spicy flavors, so I add more Tabasco sauce before eating.
